Installation of Octopus Cloud Configurator

To enhance the quality of our services, Blue Bridge MSP is offering its Cloud Services clients a free installation of the Octopus Cloud Configurator software. This tool helps track and manage your Microsoft licenses for servers. It automatically monitors and calculates licensing requirements or provides recommendations on necessary adjustments to avoid unnecessary license purchases.

The reports generated by this tool are officially recognized by Microsoft auditors, reducing time spent on audits and eliminating human errors in license tracking.

Performance Impact: The tool does not affect server workload or operations. If a server restart is required, we will schedule it outside of business hours at a time agreed upon with you.

Installation Options

The licensing management tool agent can be installed either by Blue Bridge or by you:

Installation by Blue Bridge

To install the software, Blue Bridge MSP engineers will require temporary administrator privileges. Once the installation is complete, these privileges can be revoked.

Self-Installation Guide

If you prefer to install the tool yourself, follow these steps:

  1. Create a new user ‘BB_OCC_scanner’ in your domain.
  2. Add BB_OCC_scanner to the “Domain Admins” group.
  3. Create an AD group “BB_OCC_servers” and add all servers under BB DC to it.
  4. Create or modify an existing AD policy to allow control over servers in the BB_OCC_servers group from the selected AD controller (WMI access).
  5. Create an AD group “BB_SPLA_exclude” and add Blue Bridge system administrators and service accounts to it.
  6. On the selected AD controller, create a folder:
    • “C:\Program Files\OCC\”
    • Copy the provided “InventoryScan.exe” and “remote.cfg” files into this folder (download links for the files can be found at the bottom of this instruction).
  7. Configure a scheduled daily task to execute:
    • “C:\Program Files\OCC\InventoryScan.exe”
    • Use the “BB_OCC_scanner” domain user with administrator privileges.

For Windows servers outside the domain, follow these additional steps:

  1. Create a folder: “C:\Program Files\OCC\”
  2. Copy “InventoryScan.exe” and “remote.cfg” into this folder.
  3. Set up a scheduled task to run “C:\Program Files\OCC\InventoryScan.exe” under the “local system” user.

Provide the FQDN and public IP addresses used for internet resources access of the selected AD controller and non-domain servers.
The servers should access https://occ.bluebridge.lt/service.svc address for data transfer.
